He's Leaving

I signed the papers… but only now is it really sinking in. With bags packed, my baby glances back as my heart bleeds, “Don’t worry mom. I’ll be home Wednesday.”

Sunday 160 is a creation of Monkey Man. If you’d like to participate or check out other 160s visit him at http://petzoldspracticalprose.blogspot.com/

Tomorrow morning my 11 year old is going away on his first overnight school trip. I know he’ll be fine, but even thinking about not having him nearby is difficult for me. As parents, we try to do what’s best for our children and sometimes that means letting go. I’m sure, by the time he comes back, we’ll both have benefitted from the experience.

Looks like it's not only my mother who's like that. Turns out it's something universal that all the moms are perpetually worrying about their kids. Beautiful piece.

I remember our daughter's outdoor school overnighter. Ended up being the experience of a life time but her anxiety level peaked before she left. Great 160 and thanks for firing the synapse on an old memory.

I can definitely see being nervous that your 11 year old is away from you for the first time. I think that it is only natural.

This is a lesson on how to wrench a heart in 160. He'll probably have a better time than you will.

I know exactly how you feel!
Yes, a bitter moment... as my sister says (her daughters are a bit older), 'this has only just began.'

We have to start learning to let them go, but very little by little please... I personally cannot take it.

But you know everything's gonna be alright
I try to remember what I, as a child, felt when I left home... it was great!
Love dear FEL. ;)

You know, I'm 39 and my mother still worries about me. So, your journey is just beginning, Felicitas. I know it's difficult, but start training now to survive the bleeding heart every time your child has to go away and leave you. I live all the way across the world from my mother. It's agonizing for her. But, it's life. I'm hoping all goes well. I'm sure he'll have a blast. So you can be happy for him, yeah? :-)

It's so hard to let them go, even a little bit. Then they turn into raging teenagers and you can't decide if it's better to have them around, or away.

Well, Tristan arrived home last night and all is good with the world once again! Thank you for all your words of encouragement.

Larry - I actually did drop by to see you last week, but I couldn't find the comment button (not sure what's up with that : )

Shakira - Unfortunately, I can't participate in the Children's Miracle Network promo because of a conflict of interest. I work for one of Walmart's largest competitors and cannot advertise for them on my site.

Ji - Thank you! I am humbled.
