Time Out

So, it’s Monday… and I’m home. Not because I called in sick, but because on Friday, my boss staged a wellness intervention. Despite all my assurances that “I’m fine” - though admittedly still struggling a little to get over the pneumonia that’s plagued me since early January - she took the time to poll those who work closest with me and determined that I am not. And so, I have been banished from the office for 2 days of rest and relaxation.
In all my many years of working, I have never encountered this level of caring and compassion from an employer. From my experience, the only thing the company higher-ups are generally focused on is the bottom line. And it’s not like I’ve been slacking off (‘cause I ain’t no slouch!) or polluting the office with my germs – as I mentioned to her, I did stay home for the two and a half days the doctor said I was contagious. But no, that’s not it. She and everyone else are simply very concerned for my health. Who knew?!
Of course, being the multi-tasker that I am, I can’t help but think of all kinds of things to do during this unexpected break. But, in keeping with the spirit in which it was so generously intended, I am instead forcing myself to be still and appreciate my time out. Thank you, Johanne!

So many times we compromise out relaxation by leading ourselves to believe there are more important things that must be done... more important things than taking care of ourselves. Not so. Enjoy your time off... and such a boss is a treasure!

Taking 'time out' is a wonderful, caring thing you have the power to do for yourself. It reminds you how it feels to be appreciated from the inside out. It detaches you from the conditioned multi-tasker you think you are to remember the essence of you that exists quietly in silence beyond. Self-acceptance is something that exists beneath all those things you teach yourself to believe you must do. We love you just as you are.

You are a lucky lady to be working in such a supportive environment. I'm glad you decided to take the time to just "be still".

Prayers for your speedy return to health.

Sounds like what you need is a getaway to a seclude beach for two days. Endless massages, tropical drinks and somebody to cook you wondrous meals that make you want to do untold things in the dark…

but if you cant come along that soup does look good...

Thank you all for your kind wishes. I am feeling much better now for having rested.

Working for people who care about my wellbeing makes it an easy decision for me to continue to stay around and give them my best. That should be a lesson for all employers.

That's wonderful that your employer was so concerned, and great that you could accept the offer to rest.

I'm glad you're feeling better now.

When we know we're cared about in life, everything seems easier, doesn't it?
You're well loved - by people you've never even met, too.

Continue to be well!
