Suffering for Beauty

An ancient art
From regions exotic,
Beauty held on
By a thread,

Row upon row,
Of twisting and weaving,
The follicles
Raised from their beds.

From delicate hands
Trained in expertly etching
The loveliest frame
For each face,

The charge of pain
Such a small price to pay
For another whole
Three weeks of grace!

55 Flash Fiction Friday: Compose a story in 55 words and report back to the G-Man at http://g-man-mrknowitall.blogspot.com/ …every Friday.

I was almost stumped this week on finding a nice light topic for Friday Flash 55… until I went for my regular visit to the salon and thought now this is an experience I’m sure our G-Daddy has never had – so I must share it. Eyebrow threading: momentarily painful but the results are well worth it!

They say you have never felt pain until you have been sugared and waxed! My 55 is here

This, at least I HOPE G-man hasn't experienced first hand.

Owwwww! That sounds perfectly dreadful. "Torn from their beds"

I tried to pluck my eyebrows once when I was sixteen.
Now I just leave them bushy for the loveliest frame.

Mine is up...a different sort of pain.

Let's have a good weekend regardless.

It was very beautifully written.
Haven't been through this yet, so I'm just asking, do you have to do it EVERY THREE WEEKS?!

Nope! Never had my brows threaded!
Excellent 55 Felicitas.
We all get our inspiration in different places.
Thanks for visiting, thanks for playing, and have a Kick Ass Week-End...G

What a beautiful description of this ancient though painful art. Though you do know that everyone probably scrolled back up to look at your eyebrows... ;-)

Do they thread them back in the same place, or do they put them wherever they want like I see on some women?

Very beautifully written, Felicitas!
It is indeed an ancient art but now being practiced all over the world especially by westerners.

Do you know that Chinese women used to thread their eyebrows only on the night before they got married?
